Letter from the President |
Valued Chamber Members,
Two significant
announcements were made this
past week that we all should
applaud!
- Our City Attorney, John
Russo, after being
challenged successfully
argued for a gang
injunction!
details about the gang
injunction.
- Chief of Police Anthony
Batts, after many community
meetings and conversations
with businesses, has
publically established goals
for the Oakland Police
Department! Click the link
and read a brief description
below. Be sure to view the
Plan Framework and the
Presentation and share your
opinion by clicking the word
'input'.
The Chief's
Strategic Plan Framework
establishes a vision for
Oakland and the Oakland
Police Department. It is
based on what I have heard
from members of the Oakland
Community and employees of
the Oakland Police
Department:
- Parents want their
children to be able to play
outside without fearing they
will be hurt or killed.
- Members of the business
community would like to open
and operate their businesses
without fear of being
harassed or robbed.
- Many people have expressed
a desire for police to be
there when they need them,
and to treat them with
respect and dignity.
Realizing the vision
outlined in this strategic
plan will require
substantial change in the
Oakland Police Department,
including change in
direction and priorities,
change in organization, and
change in operations. Most
importantly, change in the
culture and focus of the
Police Department will be
required.
Access the Strategic Plan
Framework
presentation and help us
by sharing your
input.
God Bless America!

CHAMBER NOW SELLING FEDERAL AND STATE
EMPLOYMENT POSTERS
|
The Chamber is now selling 2010
California and Federal Employment
Posters. If you get one thing to
protect your company in 2010 from
liability and government fines, it
should be the labor law poster
(regular or laminated), which is
required for all businesses.
Whether you have one employee or
1,000 employees, you're required to
post 16 state and federal notices.
You can avoid fines in the thousands
of dollars by purchasing a poster
from the Chamber for only $23 (plus
tax).
We're also selling the 2010 HR
Handbook for California Employers,
which guides local employers through
key human resource areas, and the
California Labor Law Digest, a
comprehensive reference for the
latest California-specific and
federal employment laws in plain
language.
For more information, contact Hank
Masler at the Chamber at
hmasler@oaklandchamber.com or at
